Hi y'all.

Welcome to my blog. I write about everything here - successes, failures and stumbles in healing my heart, my home, my health and a sailboat.

Haiti Children: Joyful, Affectionate, Always Hungry

Haiti Children: Joyful, Affectionate, Always Hungry

So I just lost the entire 2,000-word post I have been writing for weeks.

I guess pictures will stand, and what I will say is the children at this 100-person orphanage - Ororaedh Orphanage are sweet and generous, in need of parental love and affection and hungry. They get two meals a day - up from one since Second Chance Haiti started supporting them. The orphanage is religion based with a community school and a church on property - run by Pastor Silar Deluc and his wife.

Schools in Haiti are not free, so the fact these children live here, gets them an education.

The youngest children get all the foreigners’ attention. And they ask for it -walking up to hold strangers’ hands and ask to be held. The teenagers need attention too but they stand back and let the younger ones prevail. The teens can basically take care of themselves after all - and yet, they shouldn’t have to. When I go back, I want to spend more time with these kids. Being able to speak French helps. It makes me feel useful and connected.

I think communicating, sharing with my mission mates and recording everything were my gifts here.
